Helping Your Child Value Others

Presidential Plea

Unfortunately, too many children talk back to teachers, offend classmates and ignore school rules. These are issues that the education system deals with on a daily basis — and President Bush is asking for parents’ help.

“You have a responsibility to make sure your child comes to school with the understanding that they're going to be polite when they get in the classroom,” Bush said, “with the understanding that they'll treat their teacher with respect; with the understanding there are certain manners that are important.”

If you receive a note from school that your child has misbehaved, insist that your child apologize to the teacher. It may be a hard lesson, but it’s one that will help sensitize your child to the importance of valuing teachers and classmates.
