Unit 6 — Heaven Bound?

Although we often try to be independent and self-reliant, the most important relationship available to us is not one that we can work for or figure out how to obtain on our own. God provided one way to have a relationship with Him, and His name is Jesus. Nothing we do to try to earn acceptance is good enough, but when we depend on Jesus to make our hearts clean, we'll want to stop sinning and please God instead. We can't stop sinning all together, and we can’t sin less on our own. But God the Holy Spirit lives in us and helps us (our attitudes and actions) to reflect the way our hearts look to Him once we’ve trusted Jesus to make us clean and acceptable.

Spiritual Development Resources
Boost your child's liftoff on FaithLaunch! Explore a galaxy of spiritually energizing materials, including some that contributed to the FaithLaunch program.

Lesson 1 — Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we can be saved from sin.
Having a relationship with God requires trusting in His plan for our pardon from sin. Help your children understand that we can't do anything to earn God's love. Instead of trying to have a relationship with Him based on our being good, what He really wants is for us to trust in His goodness and His provision.

Lesson 2 — Salvation and repentance are inseparable.
If we love God, we won't want to keep sinning just because we know He'll forgive us. Having a relationship with God includes turning our backs on the things we know might harm us and that don't please Him.

Lesson 3 — We are not alone in our pursuit of living the way God wants us to.
Since we can't do it just by deciding we will, the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and works to change us from the inside out, helping us want to surrender to God's plan for our lives.

Lesson 4 — A Christian's life is marked by a desire to know God and share Him with others.
God gives His followers a desire to worship Him, and to tell others about Him. As your children grow in their relationship with God and increasingly entrust their lives to Him, the fruits of the spirit will sprout from their hearts and reflect the unmistakable character of their creator.
