Unit 3 — The Bible
Lesson 3 The Bible points to God by lighting our path with truth.
Introduction — Remember the earlier lesson that talked about how we all “tend toward evil”? Another way to say that is that “all we, like sheep, have gone astray.”
Sheep sometimes escape their pen and wander off because they want to, and so have we. But doing so usually means getting lost; we can’t find our way back.
The Bible can come to our rescue because it acts as a compass that points to the one true God. Some contemporaries of Jesus Christ were experts on the Bible but didn’t want to see the truth. So Jesus had to pull them aside and say, “You guys read the Bible to find eternal life, but you miss the fact that the Bible is actually all about Me. And I’m the only one who can give you life!” (See John 5:39-40 and Luke 24:27.)
Don’t let your kids get the idea from their teachers or friends that all religions
lead to God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, italics added).
