Unit 3 — The Bible

Lesson 1 — God's Written Message to Us

Introduction — Many millions of books have been written over time, and most are still available today. But only one of these books — one! — was directly inspired by God. Do you want your child to read what the Creator of the universe has to say?

It’s amazing how many of us believe that the Bible is God’s written message to man but act as though it is just last year’s paperback thriller, tossed aside with all the others.

What impression do your kids get? Do they see from your actions that there’s something really different and special about the Bible — that it’s not just another book lying around the house?

Here's the Activity:

Read this short story to your family:
Help your early reader make his way through this Bible story based on 2 Kings 22-23.

Long ago, a small (boy)boy named Josiah

became the king of Israel. He loved God with

all his1heart and followed God’s commands.

Josiah also loved hispeople. But some

of thepeople worshiped idols instead

of God. Josiah wanted them to love God.

Several years later after he had grown up,

(Josiah)Josiah began to smash the idols and repair

God’stemple. Still, somepeople didn’t want

to love God. While they were repairing thetemple,

the priest found ascroll. He knew it was

God’sscroll of the Law that had been forgotten

for many years. So one of Josiah’s staff

members brought the scroll toJosiah. When Josiah

heard what was in thescroll, he became sad.

“Our hearts have not been true to the Lord,”

saidJosiah. “Some of thepeople have worshiped

idols when they should have been loving God.”

ThenJosiah tore his clothes and cried. God spoke

toJosiah through a prophet. “I am pleased that your

1heart broke when you heard what was in My

scroll” said the Lord. ThenJosiah called all the

people together. They went to thetemple

and read from God’s scroll. Thepeople

bowed down and worshiped the Lord. And they

promised to love Him with all theirhearts.
