Movie Night With Your Teens

Movie Night Preparation

Preview a film before using it for a movie night. It will help you gauge the age-appropriateness of the content, forewarn you of any questionable scenes and give you a leg up on the discussion material. Also, a second viewing will give you more insight when it comes time to share with your teen.

Pray before and after previewing the movie. Should you use it at all? If so, ask God to give you wisdom in evaluating the film and using it to touch your teen in a meaningful way.

Predict ways the film might connect specifically with your teen. Will she relate to a character’s successes or failures because of a similar life experience?

Protect your family’s movie nights. It should be an enjoyable, exclusive time shared together. Plan ahead to limit interruptions. Keep siblings occupied elsewhere. Let the answering machine take your calls.
