Building Memories in Your Single-Parent Family Home
A Safe Place
We all need a safe, warm place to call home. As single-parent families, our environment
matters. When other things are going crazy in our child’s (and in our)
life, it helps to have a cozy environment to live, work and play in. You don’t
have to spend a lot of money to create a warm home. Here are a few ideas:
Make your front door friendly. Your front door is an outsider’s first
impression of your home. A pot of flowers, a wreath, a welcome sign, a fresh
coat of paint
or varnish or a pretty doormat all say welcome.

Store memories by the bowlful. Put a big bowl or basket on your coffee table
and fill it with family photos that haven’t yet been filed into albums.
Not only is it a fun and easy accessory, it’s a great conversation starter
or memory jogger.
Brighten chores with friendly faces. Hang an attractive bulletin board filled
with photographs of family and friends above your washing machine. Their faces
will brighten your day as you do laundry and will remind you to pray for them.
Light up the night. Turn on your front porch lights at night for a friendly
glow. Use pretty night lights in all your bathrooms to light the ways for children,
guests and even yourself.
Decorate down under. When accessorizing a sofa table, don’t forget to
decorate beneath it, too. Use large plants, stacks of big books, baskets, old
leather
luggage or anything unique that will add warmth and charm.
