Hook Your Kids on Fishing
Where to Find Fish
Fish are mostly concerned about two things: protection and food. Consequently, they are found where they feel safe and where food is likely to come by them.
In lakes, this means they hang out near structure such as rocks, sunken logs or a quick change in the bottom. In rivers they gather near the same kind of structures but usually also seek relief from the current. Look for fish behind rocks, where the bottom changes and where the current will carry food to them.
Also, if you are fishing in a stocked pond or lake and can tell where the fish truck pulled up, you might try near that spot. Another good place to look is anywhere that a stream enters the larger body of water. That running water dislodges underwater insects and sweeps them downstream to waiting fish.
Finding the ideal spot may take time. While you all are waiting for the first fish to bite, your kids might get frustrated or bored. So be ready with ideas for other stuff to do while fishing.
