Jim and Elisabeth Elliot
Elisabeth was born to missionary parents. She served as a missionary to Ecuador, and in 1953 she married a former college classmate, Jim Elliot. Ten months after the birth of their first daughter, Valerie, Jim was killed by the Auca Indians (as portrayed in the movie End of the Spear) whom he was attempting to reach with the message of Jesus Christ.
Elisabeth, in an amazing display of grace and forgiveness, later lived and worked among the Aucas. Though Jim’s first attempt to reach the Aucas led to a tragic massacre, out of that came a powerful story of the call of God on Jim and Elisabeth.
Years later, Elisabeth returned to the United States and remarried. She has authored a number of books that have inspired and encouraged many people.
Cassie Bernall
Before April 20, 1999, Cassie Bernall, a junior at Columbine High School in Littleton, CO, seemed to be just an average teenager. But on this particular day, a classmate pointed a gun to her head and asked if she believed in God. She said yes and was killed because of her faith. The story of her courage under threat of death inspired countless young people across the nation to seek God.

Todd Beamer
The Boeing 757 lifted off from Newark for San Francisco at 8:43 a.m. on Sept. 11. Forty-five people, including seven crewmembers, were aboard the plane.
“Freedom fighters” is what David Beamer later called his son, Todd, and the other passengers who decided to move against the four hijackers on United Airlines flight 93.
Todd led the group in the Lord’s Prayer and rallied them to action with the now famous words, “Let’s roll.” Government officials believe their ultimate sacrifice prevented an additional disastrous attack on Washington and saved countless lives.
