“My life changed when I became the father of a very beautiful
baby girl, and two years later a baby boy. As they got older, life started
to be very challenging. I didn’t know how to raise them in an appropriate
manner.
“I began taking the Parenting Partners class at school.
I learned many of the techniques and methods about discipline. I learned
how to have a schedule for my children. The best thing was that my children
knew how much I love them and we treat each other with respect.
“In my culture, we never received any of these guidelines
from our parents. I am so proud to have learned to be a better parent
for my children.”

“In
the Parenting Partners workshop we did an exercise about how our words
can wound the child’s heart, and something moved inside of me. I realized
that I grew up hearing hurtful things — mean put-downs and angry words.
I remembered how awful I felt, and yet I was doing the same things to
my precious children!
“I went home
and asked for their forgiveness, and now I look for encouraging words
to share with my children every day. With the new skills I have learned,
I have been able to stop yelling, and I listen and respect my children’s
feelings.
“I have seen
a big difference in my children. They smile more, and they try harder,
because they aren’t afraid that Mom will get mad and criticize something
they are doing. My children and I thank the parent outreach team for bringing
healing into our home.”
