When Your Child Is Wounded

Reduce Exposure to Violent Media

1. You may find your child agreeing with you if you recommend reducing your son or daughter’s exposure to violent media. When polled, nearly two-thirds of 13- to 14-year-old children said they believe that violence in music and on television encourages violence among youth.

2. Violence in movies is just as harmful. Before you and your kids watch a movie, be sure to read a family-friendly online review. Don’t be surprised by objectionable content.

3. As a parent, you should have the final say in how much and what kind of media your child consumes each week. You can actively pursue a number of positive steps to help your son or daughter.

4. From this point on, make a commitment to serve as the family media guardian in your home. You can make a difference!
