Why Boys Are So Different

How to Pray for Your Boy

According to respected teachers of faith down through the ages, there is no one “right” way to pray. Many people find it helpful to sit down and close their eyes when they pray. Others prefer to stand and look up toward heaven. Prayer is simply talking with God. So when you pray, reverently yet freely tell God what’s on your heart.

Here is a suggested prayer you can adapt and use, if you desire:

Dear God in heaven,

Thank you so much that you have blessed me with a son. Thank you that you love my son and want the best for him. I love him and want the best for him, as well. Please help me to raise my son to be an outstanding young man who loves you, loves other people, and is dearly loved by his family and friends.

In the days ahead, please protect my son from harm. Please put your angels around him to guard him and keep him from evil. Please give me wisdom on how to limit his exposure to the negative influences in our society. And please help me to nurture positive character qualities in his heart and life.

When my son disobeys me, please give me the grace to love and forgive him each time. When I lose my temper or otherwise fail my son, please forgive me. And please help my son to forgive me, as well.

Please give me the sense of humor, wisdom, grace, strength, peace and joy I need day by day.

Amen.*

*“Amen” is a term traditionally used to affirm or confirm what has been said in prayer.
