The Rewards of Spending More Time with Your Children

Choosing a Less Hectic Lifestyle

Which of the following changes might make your lifestyle less hectic — and give you more time to parent? Print out this page and check your responses. Better yet — print out two copies and do this exercise with your spouse.

I can start this week. I’ll need time to work out the details. There’s no way it can happen. This probably won’t help.
1. Watching less TV.
2. Going from a two-income household to one income.
3. Working at home.
4. Spending less time on hobbies or recreation.
5. Asking a relative or close friend for assistance.
6. Getting a job with a shorter commute.
7. Postponing a goal (getting a degree, remodeling the house, etc.).
8. Getting rid of some possessions so I don’t have to spend time maintaining them.
9. Reducing my work hours.
10. Better managing the time I do have.
