Exploring the Bible’s Instructions for Moral Living

God’s Word, the Bible, presents thousands of truths to affirm, commands to obey and examples to heed.

1. Dr. James Dobson, Rev. Billy Graham, Rev. Luis Palau and others highly recommend that fathers encourage their children to read through the book of Proverbs, preferably in a modern translation. In the first few chapters of Proverbs, King Solomon gives fatherly advice to his son. The last chapter presents key insights on marriage. The entire book offers practical instructions for moral conduct and speech.

2. After you discuss key verses from the book of Proverbs with your child, Dr. Dobson recommends going on to the following New Testament verses on moral living:

  • Matthew 15:19
  • Romans 1:24
  • Romans 13:13
  • 1 Corinthians 6:18
  • 1 Corinthians 10:8
  • 2 Corinthians 12:21
  • Galatians 5:19
  • Ephesians 5:3
  • Colossians 3:5
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3
  • Jude 1:17

3. Dr. Dobson also recommends going through the following biblical verses on moral speech:

  • Matthew 24:35
  • James 3:3-6
  • Matthew 12:36
  • Ephesians 4:26
  • Ezekiel 39:7
  • Ezekiel 44:23
  • Matthew 5:37
