How to Shape Your Child’s Character

Identify Basic Character Traits

What kind of person do you want your child to become? To think this through, begin by focusing on character traits that are part of your child’s make-up. Then add on as you go.

An initial emphasis on “golden” attributes that are natural for your child will give this new adventure a positive start.

  • Is your son compassionate — caring about someone who got hurt on the playground?
  • Is your daughter generous — offering to give a friend one of her toys or part of her snack?
  • Is your son responsible — offering to take out the trash or make his bed without being asked?
  • Is your daughter forgiving — willing to overlook an offense?
The more we are aware of and search for golden qualities in our children, the more we will discover. Imagine the difference it could make for your children to know you are intent on catching them at their best.
